handspun & handpainted yarns
Happiness you can squish in your hand.
Muppet Yarn Two 8 oz. bulky-spun skeins were painted colors of the rainbow, one was red and orange, the other bright blue, purple, and green. Then I plied them together, resulting in a bright superchunky yarn (185 yds to the pound! Zoiks!) that reminds me of muppets.
I have two skeins, both 100% South African Fine Wool, two-ply and lightly felted for better durability.
Skein A is 6.3 oz. and 79 yards.
$20.00

Skein B is 8.8 oz. and 95 yards.
$25.00

Glacial Ice and Stone I painted a pound of merino/silk 80/20 blend roving in blues and a little bit of green, almost olive, colors that remind me of the bright blue of glacial ice, the frosty grey-green of the water, frothy tops of whitecaps, and stone.
I spun slightly thick and thin singles to a light worsted gauge and dithered. To ply or not to ply? I feel I lost some of that long lean luster of the silk blend single, but the soft loftiness of the plied yarns makes up for it, and I love the way the colors and thickness ended up distributed. Softly plied, it is still thick and thin, with beautiful bounce.
There are three skeins of varying lengths, a chunky weight yarn at 751 yards to the pound.
Skein A, 67 yards and 1.6 oz. $16.00

Skein B, 325 yards and 7.5 oz. $75.00

Skein C, 359 yards and 7.8 oz. $78.00
